A leading medical technology company is expanding its Research & Development (R&D) presence in Penang as part of its global innovation network is seeking an experienced Head of R&D to lead the establishment and growth of the site, driving strategic initiatives, product development excellence, and organizational capability building. The successful candidate will oversee site operations, develop high-performing teams, foster collaboration with global stakeholders, and ensure the delivery of innovative products within a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute the Penang R&D strategy aligned with global business objectives.
Build and scale the R&D organization through recruitment, talent development, and succession planning.
Lead product development activities while ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.
Drive collaboration across global teams to align priorities, resources, and project execution.
Oversee site operations, laboratory facilities, infrastructure planning, and EHS compliance.
Manage budgets and resources to support growth and operational excellence.
Build partnerships with universities, research institutions, and industry stakeholders.
Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Key Requirements
Master's Degree or PhD in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.
Minimum 12 years of R&D experience within Medical Devices, IVD, Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, or other regulated industries.
At least 5 years of leadership experience managing managers, leaders, or large technical teams.
Proven experience establishing, scaling, or transforming R&D or engineering organizations.
Strong expertise in product development, verification & validation, quality systems, and ISO 13485.
Experience leading complex cross-functional programs within a global environment.Strong strategic thinking, stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.
