JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

A NOC Engineer is responsible for monitoring and maintaining IP network from the Global IP Network Operations Center (NOC).

 

Essential Functions/Duties:

  •  Troubleshoot and resolve routing/physical layer issues for customers, peers and network infrastructure.
  •  Field calls and emails from customers, peers, Telcos and inter-company organizations.
  •  Interface with other operations centers for escalation and resolution of issues.
  •  Perform scheduling/coordination of all maintenances that affect network.
  •  Responsible for managing vendor tickets related to hardware and software issues.
  •  Responsible for hardware Return Materials Authorization (RMA) disposition for the Global Network.
  • Perform troubleshooting and fault isolation on network.
  •  Providing operational direction and leadership for the NOC
  •  Technical escalation point, either from customers, or other departments.
  • Oversight of vendor related issues.
  • Contribution to the process of operationalizing new devices/services/platforms, including documentation, procedures, best practices, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Mentoring and training of NOC associates
  • Carrying out maintenance on the GIN Network
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Knowledge/Skills/Abilities) Core Competencies

  • Excellent planning, analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills
  • Strong problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate, both internally and externally in an effective, timely, professional, and courteous manner
  • Extensive background in troubleshooting Layers 1, 2, and 3
  • Strong knowledge of routing protocols, including BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, LDP
  • Good knowledge of UNIX
  • Ability to make critical decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Skillful multitasking with the ability to work and lead effectively during high pressure situations

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:                            

  • Experience and excellence in network operations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Excellent troubleshooting and fault isolation skills in network layers 1, 2, and 3
  • Advanced level configuring and troubleshooting of Cisco and Juniper routers
  • Expertise with telco carrier testing practices
  • Proven ability to work accurately and have attention to detail
  • Experience with python (or similar languages) development and shell scripting is favourable.
