A global engineering solutions provider specializing in precision plastic components, semiconductor interfacing products, optical technologies, and advanced manufacturing solutions is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team.
In this role, you will be responsible for the detailed mechanical design and development of IC socket solutions based on customer specifications. You will create and maintain 2D drawings, 3D models, and Bills of Materials (BOM), while ensuring designs meet functional, manufacturability, and quality requirements. Working closely with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams, you will support design verification, tolerance analysis, and problem resolution throughout the product development cycle.
The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical design expertise with hands-on experience in the semiconductor or precision engineering industry. You possess solid CAD design skills, excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a keen eye for detail. You enjoy collaborating with internal teams and machining suppliers to develop innovative, high-quality solutions while ensuring projects are delivered on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop IC socket components and assemblies according to customer requirements and engineering specifications.
Create detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, and Bill of Materials (BOM) within project timelines.
Perform detailed tolerance stack-up and dimensional analysis to ensure product functionality and manufacturability.Verify customer package drawings against existing socket designs and propose appropriate design solutions.
Collaborate with machining suppliers to resolve drawing, manufacturing, and technical issues.
Ensure designs comply with performance, quality, and functional requirements.
Participate in design reviews, engineering evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis related to product and design issues.
Key Requirements
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum 3 years of experience in the semiconductor, precision engineering, or related manufacturing industry.
Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD design tools, preferably SolidWorks.
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
Experience generating technical drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to design challenges.
Good communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing IC sockets, semiconductor tooling, test interface products, or precision mechanical components.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, plastic injection molding, or precision assembly.
Knowledge of semiconductor package types and related industry standards.
Experience working with suppliers and external manufacturing partners.
