DISTRIBUTION CONTROL SYSTEM (DCS) ENGINEER

Job Description 

• Ensure professional test and troubleshooting of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and perform system software maintenance (from installation of patches, rollups and corrections to complete system upgrades) in order to solve system bugs or malfunctions
• Perform and supervise system engineering activities including installations, setups, diagnostics, backups, upgrades, licensing, etc.
• Perform daily operations and one contact point for Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
• Perform Back-up operations for all install base systems.
• Responsible for executing and implementing Distrubuted Control Systems (DCS) maintenance during maintenance schedule or plant shutdown and prompt resolution of breakdown.
• To maximize plant availability and minimize disruption to the production process.
• Ensure process alarm management and process safety troubleshooting activities are carried out, verified, trended, track safely and good housekeeping is maintained.
• Carry out implementation activities for plant modifications and capital projects, in line with defined specifications and budget.
• Takes personal responsibility for quality in all aspects of maintenance work that will have impact on product quality.
• Provides specialist advice to other sections for trouble shooting / continuous improvements to processes / systems.
• Plan and implement migrations to supported versions of the control system operating software environment. Plan and initiate capital projects to upgrade obsolete distributed control system station, server, network and controller hardware.
• Coaching operations and other technical personnel on the concepts and use of Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
• Developing and documenting strategies to troubleshoot instrumentation, diagnose operational interruptions, and maximize overall equipment effectiveness.
• Integrate with the production and maintenance teams in order to contribute to and/or lead efforts to troubleshoot process variability upsets, field device failures and control system hardware failures.
• Working in a team environment with other Automation Engineers to maintain the overall site control system hardware and software.
• Implement logic changes to minimize plant trips and improve plant reliability. Establish a management of change process to ensure logic changes are controlled and risk assessed to ensure plant integrity is not compromised.
• Adhere and actively participate in occupational safety, health and environmental policies, procedures and activities such as I-See I-Act, GPI, etc.
• Perform other related duties as required

Requirements:
 

• Degree in Engineering or equivalent with at least 5 years experiences in Distributed Control Systems (DCS) preferably with ABB Distributed Control System (DCS).
• Be Fluent in English (written and spoken) with good communication and presentation skills
• Proficient understanding of instrument loop diagrams, elementary diagrams, general electrical control wiring diagrams.
• Ability to read and interpret PFD’s, P&ID’s, and instrument loop sheets.
• Good Knowledge of PID control loop for industrial control applications to regulate temperature, flow, pressure, speed and other process variables.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking protocols and media (twisted pair, fiber optic, wireless, etc.), and equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot networking problems using common isolation techniques.
• Ability to troubleshoot control wiring problems using common isolation techniques.
• Third party communication protocols knowledge such as OPC, Modbus and Profibus.
• Knowledge of Motor and Variable Speed Drive
• Knowledge and application of Microsoft Windows Operating System (OS).
• Knowledge of Server and Workstation hardware and Operating System.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office application.
• Knowledge of Visual Basic Application (VBA).
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
